Bilateral relations
Diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Republic of Bulgaria were established on 5 June 1992.
The two countries maintain a regular political dialogue, both bilaterally and in multilateral formats. The treaty framework covers most areas of cooperation, including the economy, energy, transport, culture and education. An agreement on the avoidance of double taxation has been in force between Bulgaria and Georgia since 1 July 1999.
Universities in both countries cooperate, among them Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski and Tbilisi State University.
Bachkovo Monastery, founded in 1083 by the brothers Grigol and Abas Bakuriani, holds a special place in the historical and cultural ties. The Georgian community in Bulgaria gathers there every year.
Diplomatic missions
The Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Bulgaria is H.E. Mr Zurab Khamashuridze. The Embassy is located at 3 Shipka Street in Sofia.
The Republic of Bulgaria has an embassy in Tbilisi. Current details about its leadership are on the website of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
