143 years since the April Uprising

On May 2, 2019 (April 20 in the old style) Bulgaria celebrated 143 years since the April uprising . This is one of the most significant events in the history of the country, aimed at the liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule and the declaration of independence. More than 90 settlements and more than 10,000 people took part in the largest revolt against the oppressors to date. Over 30,000 people were affected, hundreds of villages were burned and looted. The bloody suppression of the uprising was covered in a number of international newspapers in more than 3,000 publications. Although crushed, the national uprising achieved some of its political goals. 2 years later, The Russo-Turkish War ended with San Stefano peace treaty and on March 3, 1878 Bulgaria declared its independence.

Honorary Consul of Georgia in Bulgaria Mr. Julius Nushev , together with Ambassador of Georgia Her Excellency Mrs. Tamara Liluashvili attended a ceremonial fireworks display on the occasion of the 143rd anniversary of the April Epic. The official speech at the event was given by the President of the Bulgarian Parliament , Ms. Tsveta Karyancheva .
