On 12 December 2024 the Council of the EU decided that Bulgaria and Romania will become full members of the Schengen area from 1 January 2025. The decision was also announced by European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.
Honorary Consul Yuliy Nushev welcomed it as an important milestone for Bulgaria.
